Originally hailing from Little Rock, AR, George Johnson, Jr. relocated to Tallahassee to pursue his education at Florida A&M University, where he successfully earned his Master of Architecture degree. His thesis focused on the concept of Campus Squares as Public Space. With a passion for architecture and design from a young age, George has dedicated over 15 years to the Architecture and Construction industry, contributing his expertise to various projects across Florida and South Georgia. These projects span diverse building types, including hospitality, healthcare, offices, residential, warehouses, and retail.
As a co-founder of Johnson + Milner, Inc., a local Minority Owned Structural Engineering Firm, George serves as the Vice President of Operations. Their outstanding work was recognized in 2019 when J+M received the esteemed honor of being acknowledged as the 2019 Minority Enterprise of the Year by the Office of Economic Vitality and Big Bend Minority Enterprise Development (MED) Week Committee. This accolade celebrates the exemplary contributions and dedicated efforts of minority-owned businesses in the Tallahassee area.
George is deeply committed to giving back to the community and has been actively involved in various community groups. Notably, he has been an essential part of the leadership team at the Tallahassee Component of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), receiving the President's Award in 2018-2021, and he is a graduate of the Jacob Leadership Institute. Additionally, George has served as an expert panelist for the Leon County Council on Culture and Arts (COCA) Cultural Facilities Matching Grant Program. His expertise and involvement in community matters led to his appointment by the Tallahassee City Commission to serve on the Minority, Women, & Small Business Enterprise Citizen Advisory Committee where he serves as the Vice Chair.
Mr. Johnson is responsible for completion of construction documents and has over 8 years of architectural design experience, including a wide range of building types encompassing correctional, health care, office buildings, and retail centers. He is proficient in the use of 2D and 3D Mediums to allow the end user to get a better idea of the final product. His specialties include ADA accessibility studies/ remediation, Project Coordination, and Client Interaction. He has completed numerous programming, planning and operational projects, working with key senior staff on the programming, planning and implementation.
